And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. - 1 John 1:4, NKJV
If you've ever missed a friend's birthday or anniversary (or if you're like my dad and can't remember your own birthday—lol) then you will appreciate that you don't have the same joy as other people, because you didn't remember that the day was special—you missed out on something because of incomplete or bad information.
John the Apostle didn't want his disciples to miss out on something because of bad information; he didn't want them to miss the opportunity for joy because they didn't know the things he was writing to tell them.
This was a precedent set by Christ Jesus Himself:
In John 15:11, Jesus says, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”
Jesus taught His disciples, because He didn't want them to lose the joy they had in Him and He didn't want their joy to be incomplete.
Only the right information can bring the right joy.
Point to ponder:
- How does Satan use bad information to try and steal your joy in Christ?
