The Proverbs 31 Single? - Part II: Do Good To Him

This is Part II in a series of posts on living as a Proverbs 31 single.  To read Part I, go HERE.

We've probably all read Proverbs 31 (several times) and wanted, sincerely, to be like the woman it describes--to love and care for our husbands, to provide for our families, to be industrious, to let the "works of our hands praise us."  But, how are we to approach this passage who are not yet married?  Those who don't have families of our own?  Are we to just pass over it--praying that some day perhaps we'll have cause to come back to it?  No!

I want to challenge you, if you are a single Christian woman, to see the Proverbs 31 woman as you have never seen her before!  As married to Jesus Christ Himself and serving her precious family, His Church!  And this is you, if you have been born anew into the family of God!  Christ is not only your Brother, He is your heavenly Bridegroom!  We will be married to Him forever and enjoy sweet fellowship with Him for eternity!  We can begin now to love and serve Him as His faithful Bride, and Proverbs 31 teaches us how!

Join me as we study Proverbs 31 together and learn to please our Beloved Husband, Jesus Christ!

Part II: Do Good To Him

She does Him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
- Proverbs 31:12, NKJV

This verse is so small, but so mighty!  If we grasp it, everything else falls into place.  We've spoken already about how the heart of the virtuous woman's Husband safely trusts in her.  We've spoken already about how because of her He has no lack of gain.  We've said that it is possible for God to trust us and for God to in some sense gain by us.  (See Part I)  What is this verse saying that those first verses weren't?

1. The Christian does Christ good and not evil!

This is such a simple statement.  You might be thinking...well, of course...  But what does this mean for our everyday life?  How often are we really actively doing Christ good and not evil?  How often are we doing Him evil by the words we say, the attitude of our hearts, the things we do to other people, or the things we fail to say or do?  Don't you know that whatever you do to one of His own, you do to Him also?  How are we treating our Christian brothers and sisters?  Do we love them?  Are we encouraging them?  Are we forgiving them as Christ forgave us?  What is the attitude of our hearts?  Do we hate or do we love?  Check yourself!  Loving others is how we love Christ!

2. The Christian never quits!

Being a Christian is a 24/7, 365 days of the year commitment!  No holidays!  You are born into it...you can never be born out of it!  A Christian, therefore, isn't a Christian for an hour and a half on Sunday and then not a Christian for the rest of the week!  No!  A Christian is a Christian always!  All the days of her life!  Now and forever, our goal is to do Christ good and not evil!  Let us strive and press on toward the goal of the upward calling in Christ Jesus, encouraging and admonishing each other even as we see the Day approaching!

God bless you all!
